How Does Rank Work for Playing Together?
Valorant has rules to keep matches fair. Who you can play ranked with depends on your party size and your highest/lowest ranked players. Here’s how it breaks down:
Two or Three-Stack
Who you can play with in a duo or trio depends on your ranks:
Lowest Rank | Highest Rank You Can Queue With |
---|---|
Iron, Bronze | Silver |
Silver | Gold |
Gold | Platinum |
Platinum, Diamond, Ascendant, Immortal, Radiant | Exactly one tier higher Example: Diamond 2 + Ascendant 2 |
- If you’re above Ascendant: You can only queue with players in Platinum or higher, and only if you’re within one rank.
- Immortal and Radiant: Can only play ranked as solo, duo, or in a 5-stack. No trios allowed.
Full Stack (5 Players)
Any ranks can play together! You can have a team with Iron, Gold, Diamond, and even Radiant in the same group.
How Playing With Different Ranks in a 5-Stack Changes Your RR
If you play Valorant in a 5-stack with friends who are much higher or lower in rank, your Rank Rating (RR) will grow slower. The game gives you less RR when there’s a big rank difference in your group.
Here’s how much your RR is reduced:
- 2 ranks difference: 25% less RR
- 3 ranks difference: 50% less RR
- 4 ranks difference: 75% less RR
- 5 or more ranks difference: 90% less RR
Even if you get less RR, playing with different ranks can still help you get better as a team. Work on talking, helping each other, and learning new things together. With practice and teamwork, your 5-stack can still win more games and climb the ranks!
Why You Can't 4-Stack in Valorant Ranked
You can’t play ranked games in Valorant with a group of four anymore. Riot Games removed 4-stack parties to keep matches fair for everyone.
When four friends played together, the one solo player could feel left out and have trouble talking with the team. By removing 4-stacks, Riot makes sure every team has a better chance to work together and win.
Now, you can play ranked with up to three friends, or make a full team of five. This helps everyone talk, plan, and enjoy the game more.
This change might seem tough at first, but it gives you a chance to meet new people and find new teammates. By working together, you can play better, have more fun, and reach your goals in Valorant.
Unranked Players
- If you haven’t finished your five placement matches, you count as Unranked.
- Unranked players can play with anyone up to Gold.
- After you get a rank, you must follow the normal rules.
What About Other Modes?
These rules are only for Competitive (ranked) mode. In modes like Unrated, Swiftplay, Team Deathmatch, or Spike Rush, you can play with anyone, no matter their rank.
Why Can’t Some Ranks Play Together?
Riot wants ranked matches to be fair. If ranks are too far apart, games can feel one-sided, and no one has fun. These rules keep games balanced, so every win and loss means something.
You might not be able to queue with a friend because:
- Your ranks are too far apart.
- One of you hasn’t finished placements, while the other is Platinum or higher.
- Someone has a ranked ban for quitting or toxic behavior.
What If You Can’t Queue With Your Friend Because of Rank Difference?
Stuck because you and your friend are too far apart in ranks to play together? Don’t worry, we can help! If one of you is a lower rank, our professional Valorant rank boost lets you raise your (or your friend’s) rank. Once the lower-ranked player is boosted, you’ll be able to queue up together and enjoy the game as a team. No more missing out on fun matches with friends!
Final Thoughts
Valorant wants fair matches, but still lets you team up with friends if you know the rules. For most friend groups, staying within a rank or two of each other keeps everyone together in ranked. Got a big group with big skill gaps? Grab a 5-stack and queue up, just be ready for less RR per win.
